If I did it (I'm un/self-employed) I would ask for some sort of contingency that if things recover/stock prices go back up/profits go back up my pay for be automatically returned to its previous amount (or even a raise). It can't hurt to ask. If they say no or won't negotiate then you have to decide what it's worth to you.
