It started out as something that might have been akin to what they call a Urinary Tract Infection - basically needing to pee even though you;ve just been.
After being treated for that, I felt ok, so thought that was the end of it. Haha - was very wrong.
First time I felt serious pain was when I was doing a nice four-hour road trip to the missus' parents. Basically I got these pains that I could only describe as being similar to contractions (in that they'd come and go - I'm a bloke). I really shouldn't have been driving, but I couldn't pull over. The pain was intense and focused on my groin - like being kicked over and over.
A couple of days later I realised what the pain stemmed from. I passed a stone about the size of a rice crispy. It hurt like hell, but it made a great 'TING' sound on the pan :-)
Went to the Doctors, who referred me to the specialist at the hospital. At this point I felt ok, after having read numerous articles about searing pain in your lower back, I thought I might have avoided them. Nope. Whilst waiting to see the specialist, I'd had two major episodes of the worst pain I've felt in my life. I mean crying, screaming in public kind of pain. During one of the episodes I was caught out at a motorway service station, so the best thing I could do was strip to my boxers and lay on the cold tile floor, just to ease the fever/nausea.
I've since had numerous Xrays and a CT scan, which has revealed I've got a 12mm stone lodged in my bladder plus possible smaller ones floating around.
So after having another attack on Sunday, I pleaded with the hospital to find me a cancellation appointment so they could operate and remove the bastards.
So after almost 5 months of waiting to be fixed, I guess today was my lucky day. I had a phone call this morning, saying I'd got an appointment for tomorrow morning.
All I can say is I wouldn't wish stones on anyone. Aside from the intense pain, the constant discomfort and nausea between episodes gets real annoying too...
