    The article alludes to the motive being one of liberating women from a sexist and oppressive cultural dogma that actually has no roots in Islam at all. The wearing of the burka is, apparently, not mentioned in the Koran and is merely a cultural item from Pakistan.

    I think the problem is that banning the burka does not change the mindset that enforces the burka, and if the ban is effective it will simply mean muslim women will be kept indoors permanently.

    Its not liberating anyone. Tackling the reasons for imposing the burka could be considered a step towards secular liberation, but the burka itself is not the problem.
