If you have the 18-55 that came with the 350D in most kits, and you find it not wide enough, then the 17-40 won't be much wider. You need to go to a shop and try the various lenses in the 10-24 range, 10mm is wider than 12, etc. Note that when you shoot interiors with a lens this wide, you'll get less perspective distortion if you crouch down a bit, say you're 5'10 tall, and the room is 8 feet tall, if you squat a bit so the lens is at 4 feet off the ground, you will not have converging verticals the way you would if the lens is at normal eye level. Also, get used to moving the camera slightly, then turning it slightly, moving forwards, backwards, in a bit of a chicken dance while you're squating at half-ceiling height, you'll find that a wide lens will give a somewhat different image at only slight variations of camera position..... you get used to it after a while and learn to previsualize, especially if you usually work at one zoom setting. These lenses are usually less sharp at the ends, so a 10-20 is best from 12-18 or so, and if the lens says it's F4, try F8 or F11 for best results, so you may need a tripod too..
