    The nastiest patient I ever had was during nursing school. She weighed about 450 pounds and was admitted for an infection of necrotizing fasciitis, or flesh-eating bacteria. The bug had eaten about 50 pounds of meat from her hip and groin area. I had to pack the wound every day with saline-soaked gauze. The smell was unbelievable.

    The worst part, however, was when she had a bowel movement, which was quite often due to the antibiotics she was on. She would get liquid shit everywhere, all over the inside of her wound and on the gauze, meaning I had to repack it again and wiping her ass was a chore. The wound was so deep that I basically had to stick my face into it in order to get my arm deep enough to wipe.

    The bacteria had eaten through the fat layers, down to the muscle. I'll never forget being able to see her muscles contract as she moved.
