give what ever you are animating an instance name. Then create your tween on the timeline. After creating the tween on the timeline right click on the tween and select copy motion as as3. It should now ask you for the instance name. After that create a layer for your actions and paste it. Take off the timeline tween and test movie and it should work with straight actionscript.
This seems like a painful way to go about animating so I would suggest getting up to date with tweenlite/tweenmax as it can save you tons of time.
