    I have a similar situation in the West Village. Normally on the fire door to the roof there are two door openers, one thats the alarm and one that's not. You can normally see if the alarm one is 'locked'. If its not you can go out with ease.

    However, my room is actually a f*cking death-trap with one foot walls and strewn with cables. Fine for sunning yourself or a quiet beer but def. not for a party
