    but seriously,
    I think the type competes with image in all of these... maybe create a stronger heirarchy between the two (Ie: dominant type, recessed image or dominant image, recessed type).

    I think the ones with images are more successful than the ones without. The purely typographic ones need some work... they're fairly neutral even though your typography suggests otherwise. I would explore some color.
