Put on some decent clothes, put your laptop under your arm with your sample set up on the screen, and go to the place. Someone might have a minute to look at your stuff. And you've made a strong impression by showing up, and you also get a chance to get a feel for their place.
If you don't get in to see anybody, you can chat up the folks out front, and find out who hires freelancers, when they review work, when to leave off your proper portfolio, and get their contact info.
Also, leave behind a few business cards for reception to give to the big cheese.
Then down the hall to the next place.
