    Your right - you could do the effect above in 2D. But with 2 extra lines of code you could have the camera orbit around the image as it disintergrates, or each of the individual planes could be simulated with a physics engine to show them falling to the ground like broken glass etc.

    The actual effect is not really the point, it is a sample of what could be done with PV3D that I expect others will use as a base for more interesting 3D effects.
