    RAID litterally means: Redundant Array of Independent (or Inexpensive) Disks

    the point or Raid was always to be able to swap in and out cheaper drives with the redundancy and protection in the fact that there are two of them. so yes, many times RAID systems are made up of cheaper drives.

    i just got a LaCie 2Big Dual that has e-sata connection and I/O's at 3gbps... Drobo can't beat that on USB2. i love my LaCie drive. fast, silent and secure.
