I work on both OS, I'm currently tearing my hair out at Vista hanging on me just because I want to open folders and other such massively complex things. I've always found OSX a smoother and more comfortable OS personally, though as raf said, until the latest version there were glaring omissions in functionality. I find the key layout better overall too for the kind of 3/4 key combinations I have to do all the time on it too.
For a personal machine I'd still buy an XP running high spec PC over a mac, but Vista is seriously testing my patience and I'm considering shelling out the extra 50% on cost, just so I can use OSX instead! different strokes for different folks I suppose, hope you get used to it.
