I don't understand your Google reference. The logo was graphically horrendous in 1997, and obviously still is in 2009. The company has managed to create an incredibly strong brand in spite of having a terrible visual identity. Companies do achieve success now and then without having a great logo - I'm sure you would agree. However, that doesn't all of a sudden magically make their logos strokes of graphical genius.
