    I think it is how simple the typeface is (so that its versatile) and also how much character the typeface has. Also a typeface that is both classic and modern (someone described Avant Garde to me that way and it stuck with me)

    • simple doesn't mean its a sans serif. Hoefler text is also a very simple typeface.tank02
