hmm not sure if there's an easy solution other that geting a diffuser to soften the light.. you could even put some paper under it to dull it a bit. I actually stuff toilet paper into the front of my sb600, and point it away, using just the lit up paper as the flash. it's a bit trial-and-error but it gets results. especially if you take the flash off the camera and set built-in to commander mode on low
