I think one of the problems with music these days is that it's so accessible that people will listen to albums without knowing context. Some people, unfamiliar with animal collective (or those who may have listened to 1 or 2 albums, or certain songs) might listen to this and wonder what all the hype is about. Those who have been following the band since their very early days definitely see this in a different light, it's an important step for them, and for music in my opinion.
Nowadays, you can just download something you see on pitchfork, give it a listen, and wonder what the fuss is about. We rarely appreciate the time and effort, as well as creative thought that goes into albums. I think the fact that music is so accessible, it becomes more disposable. Sad really.
