Does this guy have anything to go on besides conjecture and personal predilection?

23kon, I'm not sure why you believe Christianity to be on shakier ground than Judaism, based on your argument against it. The Old Testament had more authors, and was written over a much wider expanse of time, than the New Testament. Now, I of course believe the argument about multiple authors over many hundreds of years to be a pointless tack, because if an infinite God chose to impart his sovereign directives through human writers, who the hell cares how many people or years were involved in the process.

I actually find it more miraculous that many disparate authors—writing over the course of many years—managed to each contribute a piece to the Biblical puzzle, making it all perfectly harmonious, without inconsistencies or contradictions.

You may say then that it's all moot when something has been handed down so many times, like a massive game of telephone. The trouble is, we have Biblical documents that are in some cases an actual primary source (first edition, if you will), and some that are only one or two editions removed from the original—written close enough in time for nothing to get lost in translation as the sands of language sifted.

And if that wasn't enough, we have access to ancient Hebrew as well as both common dialects of ancient Greek. So, the Scriptures are as alive today as they have ever been, precisely because God does not change, and the fundamentals of humanity have not changed. The things that made a man a man 7,000 years ago continue to define us as a species.

    • Oh here comes the bible basher. Time to defend the faith!Khurram
    • You defend your faith, Khurram. Why shouldn't I defend mine, especially when people make a big deal over conjecture?gramme
