A closed cell phone account of mine some how kept incurring two 50 cent text message over 5 years. I got a call one day from a collector telling me that there was an out standing bill of almost $9000.
I had no idea what they were talking about but rather then arguing with them i told them that I will call back and asked for number. Called AT&T, and they called the collection agency.
Again, another time I had -$52 on an account and they kept saying that I owed $52 dollars. Collection agency didnt know anything except $52. Called AT&T, they kept saying that I owed $52. So I went to the store to see what they saw on the screen. They only saw $52 and didnt see the minus sign. So I asked for money back but they said that the money would go toward the collection agency fee. Still didnt get that $52 back.
My story is not as dramatic. Or really interesting. Hmmm...
