The way i picked up my first job was to go on portfolio reviews even if they didn't have a position available. I went in to a place I wanted to work and they liked my work, but didn't have any positions. But the Creative Director had a friend who owned a studio and he hooked me up with them. I got lots of good feedback and was even more comfortable showing my portfolio knowing they didn't have a job.

Long story short, show your portfolio to as many people in the industry as possible. It's good for you to practice and get feedback.
