Ah... now I see you are looking for circumflex over an i (i just read the tread title)... in that case, "option + i > shift + i".
For an upwards pointing arrow, you can also just copy+paste any of these unicode arrows: ↑ ↥ ⇑ ⇡ ⇧ ⤊
