i used to vouch for lacie's and teh extra $$$, but have recently had a couple 2 year old D2's die on me back to back.

having done lots of research i'm now of the opinion that multiple cheap 500GB drives is the best way to go. the 1TB drives rarely are much savings over 2x 500, and all too often its the power supplies or enclosures that fail rather than the disks... so money best spent on multiple drives. WD Mybooks are my new fav because their dirt cheap, compact, and shelf together nicely.

the seagate are also cheap and good but i hate the base/ footpad on it. also have read that their coveted 5 year warranty is BS because the claim process is torture, and when they do replace its generally another dogdey refurb drive.

    • or of course build your own raid is probably the best option if you have the time and money to invest upfronthorton
