I was watching TV the other night and there was an ad for Littlewoods, who (for non UK readers) are a very third rate department store. Very low class.
They are running some TV ads at the moment for the Christmas season and though its possible to pick them apart on some levels, in terms of their productions values, their gloss, the aspirations they project and the glamour they portray, they look like a hollywood production job. Its all digital, and I have no doubt they were composited on a standard G5 in a shitty cluttered room in a second tier ad agency somehwere in London for almost no money.
They look that good because they just look like what everyone else is doing, and it was easy to emulate because we all have the same tools at our disposal.
Ideas really stand out as being exceptional and valuable now though. Ideas was the one thing that was disregarded when we all went digital and everything got glossy.
