99% of HyperIsland's designers come into the program with crappy portfolios and exit the program with crappy portfolios. The only caveat is that they have two or three non-crappy projects that:

    1. Were non-paid
    2. They had complete freedom over
    3. They had a huge team of co-students to do the grunt work on and respected Art Directors and Creative Directors to keep high-standards.

The funny thing is although each hyperIsland class creates 1 or 2 "good" pieces of design each year, you then have the luxury of 23 other people taking credit for the project.

It's the most retarded Portfolio School concept ever. If I'm shelling out 5 figures I better get personal attention on individual projects. To wrap things up, none of the HyperIsland designers get noticeably better after going through the curriculum.

Someone is inevitably going to mention Jens Karlsson, without which HyperIsland wouldn't be shit. To that I say Jens was already well talented and well on his road to success before he went to HyperIsland.
