those watercolor/nudes will put that place over the top (it's pretty close to too cheesy already).
i sorta liked the idea of shots of the space itself hanging on the wall... that would be kinda rad and would play on 'local' pretty well.
the space definitely needs to lighten up a bit. giant clown paintings or something stupid (think thrift shop art) in tacky frames would contrast sterility quite a bit.
large, grainy, b&w people shots would be safe/easy and tie into local, and would probably be far more up your friend's alley...
