I think the Socialist thing is a little far reaching. However, some of the goals that Obama is after are inching closer to Socialism. The fact that he said 'spread the wealth around' instead of previous justification for taxing the rich - 'they can afford it, so they should pay more' is what is scaring people. While both sentiments equal the same thing, the intent is transparently different. While I think our gov should start learning to make due with less, actually saying you want to spread the wealth is something new as far as I know. Then you add the fact that he'd love to make health care a single-payer system, i.e. gov paid for, is a little scary to some as well. I know that other countries have it, they might love it, I'm convinced that it would be a horrible idea to let our gov pay for our health care. They're wasteful as hell and have 2 social programs already in Social Security and Medicare that are about to cost us tax payers a TON of money. As it is when our gov needs money, they simply print it up through the Fed Reserve, which is what causes inflation. That's the hidden tax on all people that fall below the banks who lend. Anyways back on point - I wouldn't call Obama a Socialist per se, but I think his goals, plus the direction our current administration took on this phoney baloney bailout where our gov now owns stock in major US companies is bringing us closer and closer. Honestly, I can see why some people are getting a bit scared.
