I bought a regular trick deck and threw some wide trucks on it along with some huge, soft long board wheels and the thing rolls great. It just took a couple of risers to make sure the board cleared the wheels. Its terrible for tricks but I have another deck for that. This was built solely to cruise around without having to carry a gigantic longboard across town.
If your local skate shop has a decent staff they'll help you get set up from start to finish. Just tell them what you want and explore the different options. I got mine for less than 150 and i only spent that much because i opted for a brand name board.
