    the only thing I can think of would be to offer as many customizing features as possible. to give the user the controls for the best data-acces in regard to his presonal preferences/screen size/browser window size.

    for the list view, e.g. a page directory w/ selection of how many objects per page the user would like to see. next page / prev page instead of scrolling. for large sets of data we always try to incorporate these ajax-instant search thingies (the entry "AN" would reduce the list to "ANamorphic", "bANzor", etc; not on a special "results" page).

    also, donĀ“t know if it fits the scenario, a zoomable grid is always nice: user controls the number of columns/lines by 0%-100% scrollbar. depending on the selection, larger previews/more metadata is displayed per object. good for seamless switch between overview/orientation-mode and detail view-mode.
