  You can do it but its easy for someone to get around the copyright by changing the cuts a couple of centimetres, change the stitching, the buttons etc.....

  Don't take this info as gospel though, this is what a friend who used to make custom leather apparel told me. He got out of the industry because of it. He would come up with designs then see bigger companies using an almost identical cut as his work. He tried to take them to court but the slight adjustments they made were enough for it to be deemed legal.
