i was at a party just now and this guy introduces himself as a freelance designer. upon further investigation i learn that for the past five years he's been working for a company making dvd covers for adult entertainment. he says that the company has dissolved and he's got to look for work again but he's got nothing to show.
then he tried to add a sheen to his shit life by saying the job provided him with this spiritual approach of absorbing as much fun as possible, and then proudly stated that he is self-taught. pfffft. 'oh i am not any good with like typography or anything.' complete douchery!!
i think we forget how many hacks are out there and underestimate the demand for trained, thinking designers.
