The difference btween TV dramas and movies is that movies have (besides obviosly bigger budget) lots of air to breath -- the way they are shot, the difference in shots (closeup, medium and wideshots) while TV mostly offers closeups and (rarely) mediumshots. it's much more claustrophobic with TV dramas (and i don't only mean the aspect ratio of the screen). LotR was shot as if it was for TV. Lots of closeups with a few wideshots here and there - everything then edited as if those wide shots didn't even belong there. And the acting... why is it that CG generated Golum was the best actor there? And the constant rambling... They never did anything they just spoke.
I understand that it's a huge project and making movies is damn hard in the first place but the way this one was told is way under average.
