  D300 Continuous shooting from 6 frames, 8 with grip.
  D90 4.5 frames.
  50D 6.3fps continuous shooting

  D300 51-point auto focus with 3D focus tracking and three dynamic AF modes
  D90 11-point AF system
  50D 9-point wide area AF

  D300 1,005-pixel 3D Color Matrix Metering II
  D90 420-pixel RGB 3D Color Matrix Metering II

  All these add up to make a huge difference in overall performance. It's not all about ISO performance. It's the complete package that makes the difference. I wouldn't bother 50D compare to D300. Handling on 50D is not that great.
