if you can't come up with a .com name, you're not using your head. A .net or .org on a personal site or a business (that's neither non-profit nor internet provider) is wrong and looks bad first impressions-wise. (I do like foreign domains though.)
True Story:
I have a friend, in a band. Wanted me to do the site. I say ok. He went and got the domain w/o my consultation. Wound up withI refuse to build it and have not talked to him since.
That and
he got a golden lab AND AND AND named it "Madison" no less.Jeeez.
