one of the most proven ways to get ahead and go where you want to go is to just "put it out there" so to speak. buy books, go to conferences, press the flesh, give out a business card, meet people, learn to talk the talk, be social, etc, et al. I promise if you do that, in less than one year you will be moving up the ladder and closer to where you want to be. also, remember, you're in NY and anything can happen in a moment, you just have to be ready for it.
