  I'd try and speed up the initial loading time. The site took about 50 seconds to load, that's just long enough to get bored and close the window.
  One thing you could try is loading each section of work once clicked on. Total loading times will stay the same, but the initial load will be much quicker helping people to stick around.

  Also what everyone else has said about showing the first image in each section automatically.
