Wow, only the fanboys would argue that this is a good thing. Apple has always been a control freak and this is much too Big Brotherish. All in the name of profit, of course. Don't fool yourself into thinking Apple just wants to protect your iphone from "bad software".
If you purchase the phone, it's yours to do whatever the hell you want to with it. If I want to buy one and use it as a coaster, that is my right.
