I always default to The Handmaid's Tale when thinking of an answer to questions like this, because it's always struck me as my most unexpectedly brilliant read. I consider this grossly unfair to my favourite authors though - Iain [M] Banks, Bret Easton Ellis and Stanislaw Lem. I could pick any one book from these authors and hold it in as high a regard.

    • Again, I don't mean to write like a twat - it just comes out that way. Guess that means that, deep down, I'm a twat.detritus

    • Do. It's - and I probably sound like a mysoginist here - a truly feminine book. Yet dystopian sci-fi - what more cud u want?detritus
