You are looking over the sleeper in the market: Mazda3 Speed. I have a 2007 Mazda 3 Hatch. For the money, the only car Consumer Reports ranked higher (and only slightly) was the Honda Civic. But if you are looking for something sportier, the Mazda3 Speed is a GREAT deal. If you want mg33, I can send you pdf's from Consumer Reports for both the new and used cars you have mentioned.
