Advice I got from a photographer who once had a successful studio in NYC. For artists and designers, living in NYC can be tough because you tend to get your validation as said artist/designer from your environment (other designer friends, the image of being a NYC designer) so that you become caught up in the image of being a designer/artist and lose sight of the work.
For him moving out of NYC was the best thing he ever did for his work because he didn't have any other distractions. It is all about the work, not the hooplah.
Just food for thought.
