I'm thinking about this too, I might just grab the 5D while its cheap, still a great camera and at its current price a real bargain.
As for the 50mm debate, why buy a 50mm at all unless you specifically need one. I need one at the moment because I'm shooting in close proximity with a flash in very dark venues shooting waist up portraits on FF bodies. It's ideal for this. I know a lot of people buy 50s but they also rarely use them.
If you want a portrait lens the 85mm f1.8 would be a better option or even a 70-200 f4L. You willl get a more flattering perspective and better bokeh at longer focal ranges.
