  Apple 17" standard is 1680x1050 but goes up to 1920x1200
  Apple 15" is only 1440x900 (but you can choose normal and glossy)

  (and my 3 year and half old dell 15 is 1680x1080)

  I'd suggest to go with the MBP 17" which is pretty compact and there's no big difference in size compared to a 15.
