If your kid could do that then really, you should be encouraging them. And if you let them do that then good on you. I just don't understand why anyone would ever say, disrespectfully, 'my kid could do that'. Is it not demeaning your kid too - 'even my kid could do that'?
As well as the above, Greenberg's collected essays are very good. Heavy, but worth reading and understanding. Abstract art is, in a sense, true art, figurative art is reproduction [but still as worthy!].
