why PhD? You like those flowers above? Cool! You don't like, it's cool too! There often isn't much more then that.
The reason why some art is worth money and some isn't is really related to the market -- i mean you have ebay where people sell stuff that some people are ready to spend serious$$ for it -- why, because the feel like it. With art you have people with $$ who want to buy art for many reasons -- sometimes as trivial as because it will look good in their living room, sometimes because someone told them it will gain value or sometimes because they heard it's "high art." As with everything is some art just stupid mumbo-jumbo? Yes, but so with everything else. Then again you would be foolish to think that some artist out there invested thousands of dollars to buy canvas and pains and studio space and just "scribbled" around without believing in it.
