web 2.0 is a new generic type of web structure and more often than not a is a business facade disguised as a social networking site
the tactics are that they usually the sites give away a "free" service or software solution to the public (say like, free storage), and secondly offers a "upgraded" or "pro" service for a nominal charge and usually a "lifetime" membership (say like $20 per year).
If the Web 2.0 can get enough members, well, they could really make a huge income base on this "social-networking" model.
It's really just another business schtick.
