OS X has small bugs...yah, so does absolutely every piece of software. At least it's not one massive bug like OS 9. I use OS X 10.2.6 on a Dual 500 G4 and it kills. I would NEVER even think about using 9...I'd rather die. I know what you are talking about when you say it is less responsive....but come on, if you compare productivity....wait wait, can you even? I can be compressing DV, burning a CD, downloading something, and surfing or doing some design at the same time...try that in OS 9 and tell me it's more responsive. The only problem I have with OS X is the lack of control over the GUI...Aqua. I wish you could turn off things like shadows, fades, zooms, genies and all that other cool stuff if you wanted to. I know you can achieve some of this by editing the .plist files and using third party software...but that's just not the same...I'm wary of those utilities.
By the way, for anyone that cares...I tried out the latest build of Panther on my PowerBook 800...pretty damn cool, especially Expose and quick user switching...some things still don't work and there are obviously still bugs, but I think it'll be a sweet OS. Once again though, I was hoping for more UI control.
About the AntiAliasing, for text you can turn off all text below a certain font size, and in Preview you can turn it off as well....it's not system wide but it might make you a bit happier.
Cheeeeers.
