went through this last year, researched a lot, and saved big time by buying the rock online at one of the big reputable online sellers. If you find a friendly wholesaler you can get an even better deal. The rock will be exactly the same, but half the price at least of Zales or other over the counters.
Clarity: go VVS or VS 1 or 2. don't bother higher you won't be able to tell. But lower you will.
Cut grade: only buy excellent or perfect. This makes a huge difference. The cut and polish, not clarity or color, is what makes it shine
Color grade: not as important as people think.
