    I've just done something recently which uses a texture a bit like this. I searched Google for hi-res shots of carbon fibre weaves (as they're nice and clean, and not frayed like more natural materials), selected a particularly clean portion, then made a tile out of it. If you spend enough time on it, you can use this small tile to make a high-quality overall finish, then you can faff around with blending modes and levels in PS to make the hilights 3d-ish. If you're comfortable with bump maps, then I guess you can do as skt suggests,as it'd probably take a lot of the guess/play-work out of trying to make the 3d-ness look real.
