  Best computer...guess those supercomputers excluded:
  the build it yourself ones, if you splurge on all the latest thingamahjings. It'll be faster than any machine from any out-of-the-box ones available.

  Best laptop/note: harder to build yourself. I assume you'll design on it. So, max out the spec of a macbook pro - might not be the fastest - but all the other designers will do it. And if you don't, they'll bitch about it on this site.
