Its not how it works, because there are people up there calling themselves "new media designers" and all the do is business card shaped cd roms in director.
But then you have those "new media designers" designing interfaces for reactables / multi touch screens, interactive installations/ ads with processing that respond to audio visual imput, etc.
Those to me are today's new media designers. If you are not up to date and you think doing a POS on director is new media, then I'm sorry, your definition of the word "new" is as outdated as the guy doing the cd rom cards. as simple as that.
