  In terms of pure animation i think that Steamboy (from Katsuhiro Otomo) is something over the top. I mean, the story may be quite weak, but that is not the point of the movie. The animation is the best thing i ever saw on the genre. it's overdone but is wonderfully overdone. It's an extreme vulgar display of power from the first to the last frame.

  That said i'd list
  Akira (from otomo)
  Quite everything from Miyazaki
  Satoshi Kon (Paprika and Perfect blue)
  Stuff from Mamoru Oshii (ghost in the shell included)

  Bllod - the last vampire is amazing as well.

  And there are some really good movies made up by 30 mins shorts like Robot carnival or Manie-Manie (labyrinth tales) or Memories or some more i can't remember.

  • Have heard quite a bit about Akira, remember seeing the dvd case in a mates collection, will def check it outavolve
  • comic is way better tho - Manga Mania issue 1 - 100 ;) back in the daytrooper
