This is a document I saved around 2000
Formed in 1983 by design leaders Deborah Sussman, Saul Bass, Jim Cross and others, the Los Angeles chapter is committed to connecting LA's creative community through a year-round program of events, conferences and competitions that recognize design excellence and honor industry ethics, with a special focus on design's impact on the local SoCal economy.
In the past two years, membership has increased over 100% (300% for students), and the chapter has produced over 40 events, increased attendance by 350%, premiered its first annual competition (SOUNDBLAST), debuted its annual Web conference (E-DESIGN), and was a key player in an industry coalition that rewrote California Sales Tax Code #1540. In an effort to heighten appreciation for design as a broadly defined discipline, the chapter actively initiated industry collaborations with SEGD (Society of Environmental Graphic Designers), GAG (Graphic Artists Guild). British American Chamber of Commerce, Royal Society of the Arts, Design Coalition, Armand Hammer Museum, The Getty, Art Center College of Design, American Association of Advertising Agencies, AIGA San Francisco and AIGA San Diego.
In April 2000, the chapter is set to launch its enhanced, e-commerce enabled, database-driven Web site (produced in collaboration with InSync Media Inc.), which will become the primary communication vehicle and pivotal information resource for members and contributing companies - a virtual gathering place and networking opportunity designed to complement the chapter's offline events and activities.
